Review: Baladin Restaurant – not what we hoped for

Camden Town has some of best restaurants in London. Sometimes, however, one of them doesn’t quite deliver the food and service that is expected.

Baladin Italian Restaurant is smack bang in the middle of Camden Market, close to the Amy Winehouse statue. Their menu is impressive, the seating outside inviting, and a good selection of drinks.

That, for our visit, is where the goodness ended.

Upon arriving we tried to order a decaf oat cappuccino, and told to sit down. When the server arrived and re-ordered the coffee we were told that they don’t do decaf, and don’t do oat milk. Sure, that’s fine, but you’d perhaps expect this from a place that serves coffee in Camden Market. In fact, this makes it the only place serving coffee to not serve alternative milk.

Food was ordered, two plates of spaghetti. The first was brought out after 15 mins for once of the guests, and the other was told that there had been an error with the order and the second plate would arrive soon after. This did eventually happen when the first guest had already received their food.

Apart from the service, the food was surprisingly bland. Watery even. Their current menu is not available on their website with it last being updated in 2021.

Overall the food and experience from Baladin in Camden was disappointing. Fortunately Camden Town has other Italian Restaurants which we’d highly recommend. Maybe it was just a bad day in the kitchen but Baladin didn’t deliver this time.
